Steve Lopez

I was born via Immaculate Conception on September 19, 1979. My parents almost named me Jesus but they decided Jesus Lopez sounded too hispanic, and we are 100% Italian so they didn't want that.

I, like Scott, had a love for vehicles of flight. I remember hanging out with him way back in seventh grade in Mr. Sensinig's Aviation class. We spent an hour each week building model airplanes in school! How cool is that?!

I intended on joining the Air Force after High School until I got glasses junior year. Then the Air Force recruiters gave me the finger, said "Sorry son, you're not perfect enough for us." and killed my self-confidence for the rest of my life. As a direct result of that event, I now support the Green Party.

On the plus side, the first day I wore my glasses to school, the girl that I had an enormous crush on said: "Hey Steve, you're cute with glasses!" I wasn't sure how to take that so I just blushed, looked down ("Don't look down no, no! Go! Go Underground!"), and kept on walking.

When I was 11 my brother forced me to start learning the guitar. The first song he taught me was actually the bassline for Radar Love by Golden Earring. The Lemon Song by Led Zeppelin soon followed and it wasn't long before I was jamming along to Welcome To The Jungle.

Freshman year of High School I was introduced to the wonderful world of weezer by our friend Joe Acello. Anyone who knows me now realizes what Joe started. He created a monster. My newfound love for weezer combined with my pre-existing obsession with Guns N' Roses (and particularly with Slash) soon led to me writing songs. The evidence of my two biggest influences tends to shine through in the songs I've written. Most of them end up with pretty weezer-esque chord progressions and the solos have me busting out my best Slash impersonations.

Scott and I jammed together for a couple years. We went through a couple different band incarnations (see the FMHistory page for all that info) and eventually we ended up as FMGreen with Rick on bass. The jury is still out on whether or not that is a good thing.

email Steve (at) FMGreen.net with questions or answers or just to say "hi" or "you're a big dickhead."
